OVERVIEW
Following emergency measures designed to stop the spread of COVID-19, as the city of Toronto is reopening, and based on the instructions from the Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU), the International Institute of Travel & Business has designed a plan for reopening that includes the guidelines and health measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff, instructors, domestic/international students, and visitors in the campus.
The International Institute of Travel & Business is a private career college that works with small groups of students; this can result with good compliance of COVID-19 policies and protocols.

REOPENING PLAN
Currently, all courses are designed to be delivered virtually due to the COVID-19 outbreak. During the reopening period, the institute will determine which courses can be moved into in-person instruction based on the size of the class, and also taking into consideration the hands-on activities that may be present in the modules.
Some courses/modules may continue being delivered virtually until further notice from the Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU) and local public health authorities.

Number of students:

  • Under 10 students per classroom.

Some individuals will be unable to attend in-person sessions due to the measures imposed by COVID-19, such as those with underlying medical conditions, or health conditions or disabilities that prevent them from being able to physically distance or use NMM or face coverings, as well as students affected by travel restrictions. Students living with individuals at high-risk of severe illness may also choose not to attend in-person sessions. In this case, students will have the option to start/continue their courses virtually/online.

There are no campuses residences, students will be informed on how to take the safe measurements precautions while commuting to the college. The college’s kitchen will be available for no more than 2 students per time. They will be daily advised to keep social distancing in the college's facility regularly.

PROTECTIVE MEASURES

  • All students including both, international and domestic, entering Canada from international locations must follow Canada’s Government travel restrictions, based on their eligibility to enter to Canada. Note that, exemptions for fully vaccinated travellers who meet specific conditions are in place. It is required that all individuals who enter Canada, unless otherwise exempt, to quarantine or isolate themselves for 14 days. Students may be required to QUARANTINE.

  • DURING QUARANTINE: Students will be requested to be tested for the COVID-19 virus at least once during their quarantine period.
  • The college will maintain a daily self-monitoring quarantine screening for each student, to monitor their symptoms, and track any potential case of COVID-19.
    Students will be requested to submit a digital form via email every day during the 14 days quarantine. In case of an emergency, the college will contact an ambulance to take the student to the hospital.
  • A college representative will inform the student about the closest Ontario assessment centre, where they can get a COVID-19 (coronavirus) test.
  • Testing can take place at the end of quarantine period for the students to fully complete the 14-day quarantine. While waiting for the results, students should remain in quarantine and the college will continue monitoring them.
  • This is a mandatory step for all quarantine individuals. A copy of the test results will be requested to be sent via email.
  • If a student tests positive, the quarantine period of 14 days will restart and the college will take all necessary steps as per previous quarantine compliance. The college will maintain the daily oversight of the student during that period to ensure there are improvements, and in case of an emergency, the college will contact an ambulance to take the student to the hospital.
  • The college is obliged to inform any compliance issues within the 14-day mandatory quarantine period and any cases of COVID-19 infection during the14-day mandatory quarantine period to P/T public health authorities (PHA).
  • International Students will be requested to have a medical insurance with COVID-19 coverage.
  • All students, staff, instructors, and visitors will be informed about COVID-related protocols via phone call or e-mails, including information on how to notify the college in the event of an outbreak or exposure.
  • IN-PERSON CLASSES – FALL/2021: All students and instructors will be requested to be fully vaccinated before attending in-person classes at the college location.
  • Staff, instructors, students, and visitors will be encouraged to use face coverings (i.e., non-medical masks) to protect others around them when physical distancing is challenging or not possible.
  • CLEANING AND DISINFECTION: The College is following the steps listed at the Cleaning and Disinfection for Public Settings guidance from the Public Health Ontario.

STEP-BY-STEP COLLEGE CAMPUS
The building where the college is located is taking all precautions to keep the hygiene and cleaning protocols in place. After arriving at college location, staff, instructors, students, and visitors will have to follow the steps:

1) A face covering or mask is required to get into the building;
2) A security guard will be at the entrance to monitor all guests going in and out of the building. A dispenser with hand sanitizer will be available;
3) Two lifts are available, where they will be able to keep the physical distance. Hand sanitizer dispensers will be available on each floor, where they can use after leaving the lift;
4) At the college’s reception, personal protective equipment (PPE), such as face masks, will be available, and temperature checks will be conducted on every individual before they go inside;
5) On the college’s site, the floor will be marked to guide individuals and keep social distance;
6) Inside the classrooms, students will be seated at least 2 meters apart when in-person. Classrooms and computer labs will have signage to limit the space and remind all individuals to keep the social distance. In case there is a need, virtual lectures simultaneously will be available to limit the number of individuals in the classrooms;
7) Each group of students will be scheduled to start and finish classes at different times, thus there will be no intermingling between groups;
8) Each classroom will have a specific time for breaks. During their break, students and instructors will be able to have their snacks in their respective classrooms, where they are seated;
9) Physical interaction between individuals other than for essential tasks related to the studies or learning is strictly prohibited;
10) Cleaning and disinfecting will take place before, and after classes.

ENHANCED SCREENING

  • Signage will be available at entry points advising staff, instructors, students, and visitors not to enter if they or someone they have been in contact with has been diagnosed with COVID-19 or have symptoms such as fever, cough, or respiratory illness;
  • The International Institute of Travel & Business will ensure that appropriate steps are being taken to ensure the cleanliness of the college’s location;
  • All individuals attending classes at the college’s location will be requested to fill an acknowledgment document – COVID-19 WAIVER;
  • All individuals attending classes at the college’s location will be requested to submit via email the result of the COVID-19 school screening before classes. The online tool is available at: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/;
  • The college will maintain accurate records of staff and students’ attendance for the last 30 days, as well as up to date contact information for staff and students. This information will be available to be accessed and shared with the Public Local Health in a timely manner (within 24 hours) for investigations and communications;
  • The college will keep a log of all visitors (e.g., contractors, parents/guardians, etc.) who enter the college location(s) visited and dates/times of visit to facilitate contact follow-up if needed;
  • The college administrator will have regular meetings with college staff with respect to outbreak prevention and control measures, including training in infection prevention and control (IPAC) measures, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

CONTINUITY OF EDUCATION PLAN
The goal of the Continuity of Education Plan is to ensure that IIT continues to meet the educational needs of all students during a college closure.
In case of COVID-19 outbreaks, all students, instructors and staff will receive updated information on health protocols in the event of an emergency and how instructions will continue if in-person learning is interrupted. In this case, in-person courses will be moved into the online learning system until further notice.

CASE MANAGEMENT
Based on the reports received from students, staff and instructors, also the daily temperature checks, if the college identifies a potential case of COVID-19, the college will instruct the individual to ISOLATE and monitor for symptoms while self-isolated.

  • The college will assist the student and will notify the health care professional or public health authority to discuss the symptoms reported and travel history. Also, the college will assess the potential exposure within the campus, and document required information of all affected persons.
  • The college staff will be in communication to check and monitor their status and needs on a daily basis. A list of essential service supplies will be provided to the student if necessary.
  • If a staff, instructor, student, or visitor notifies the college that they have been exposed to a confirmed case of COVID-19, IIT will request the person to leave the college immediately to self-isolate and self-monitor for symptoms and seek public health or medical advice if symptoms appear.
  • IIT will remain in contact with the person to stay informed of his/her health status and help them feel connected and supported.
  • If a staff, instructor, student, or visitor has a positive test of COVID-19, IIT will suspend all in-person classes and will report the case to Public Health Unit (PHU) Authorities immediately. All necessary protective measures for infection prevention and control will take place at the college’s location, before in person classes resumes.
